Honestly, there are few meals that don't benefit from having a cooked egg thrown on top. Eggs add texture, flavour and that delicious golden goodness; which brings me back to one of my favourite things - soft boiled eggs.
They remind me of my childhood; early mornings watching RAGE (90's baby) with a soft boiled egg and 'soldier' toast for dipping. Ahhhh the nostalgia.
Now I'm a 30-something year old woman but I still like to watch some music video clips and eat some dippy eggs in the morning, so here's the low-down on how to get them perfect every time.
- Bring the water to a boil before adding the eggs. This helps prevent cracking.
- Once the water is boiling, gently set the eggs in with a spoon.
- Set a timer for 5 mins as soon as the eggs are in the water.
- TIMER IS GOING OFF!
- Immediately drain the eggs and cover them with cold water to stop the cooking process.
- While they're cooling for a minute, drop some bread in the toaster. Once toasted, don't forget to butter it generously and cut it into soldiers
- Pop them in your cute Leif egg cup, knock the top off, sprinkle with salt and dip in those buttery soldiers.
- ENJOY!
